«Im Alltag» — a photographic and sound exhibition on contemporary Ukraine
In Berlin, at the Stasi-Zentrale. Campus für Demokratie (House 22), the exhibition «Im Alltag» took place, bringing together photography, sound, and curatorial research within a shared space. At its core is the photographic series by Jonathan Benjamin Small, a documentary photographer who repeatedly returned to Odesa, Kyiv, and the Kyiv region over many years, documenting life in its different conditions. His work reveals Ukraine through intimate and direct encounters with people. The project was curated by Marta Pysanko and Zlata Zhuravlova, who shaped its conceptual framework. The sound composition was created by Berlin-based producer David Willy Gladisch and is based on recordings of the environment in Ukraine. The exhibition offers a layered perspective on contemporary Ukraine through the interaction of visual and sonic experience. The opening of «Im Alltag» featured a panel discussion with the entire project team. The program also included a statement by Rebecca Harms, the lecture “Call to Action” by Vitche Berlin, and a screening of the documentary-social film «Im Alltag», filmed in Ukraine during the winter of 2025/2026.
